NOTICE OF RACE

Winter sailing competition open for everyone
Sponsored by South-Savo Region, Savonlinna, Saimaa Holiday, 3D Wind Service,
Prisma, Kitewing and others
Competition for three classes: kites (Kite), handheld wings(Wing) and sledges (Sled) with
windsurfing rig
Disciplines Kite: Course Race and Kite Cross, in Course Race skis and snowboards will
compete separately, either in same or in separate starts
Disciplines Wing: Course Race and Short Track Slalom (STS)
Disciplines Sled: Course Race and Short Track Slalom (STS)
Additionally for Sleds: Short Track Slalom at ”Rautio Sports P-7” race
WISSA Racing Rules (WISSAR), Winter Windsurfing Racing Rules (WWRR), Kite Cross
Rules (KCRR), this Notice of the Race (NoR) and Sailing Instructions (SI)
Participation fee 160€ (140€ for racers registered at www.wissa2011.org prior to 31st Jan
2011, 110€ for Juniors under 16 and 90€ for Juniors under 16 registered prior to 31st Jan
2011) is paid during the registration, each competitor shall fill registration form, register
own equipment and must have valid injury insurance (for Finnish racers membership
of Purjehtijaliitto either over Purjelautaliitto or own sailing club is enough); third party
insurance is highly recommended
Race is arranged by Suomen Talvipurjehtijaliitto ry
Sailing Instructions will be given latest at skippers meeting
All participants are taking part solely on their own responsibility, suitable helmet is
required from everyone, other protective garment is highly recommended. It is mandatory
to consider safety of every person on ice including racer himself and avoid any
unnecessary risks, sailing in dark or on possible weak ice areas (which can be indicated
during the skippers meeting) is entirely forbidden
Possible protests will be handled by Protest Committee or in case of STS or Kite Cross
by Arbitration of judges during the race (shall be announced in SI). Protest Committee
will be headed by racing official, Head of Protes Committee and shall additionally contain
three members elected from competitors not involved in the protest situation
There will be one Chief Judge, Discipline Judges and Assisting Judges (all announced in
SI) and other assisting personnel
Race will be carried on in accordance with above mentioned rules which will be
displayed to all participants and explained during the skipper meetings; all participants
agree by taking part in the race to accept decisions of the judges regarding their
equipment, sailing and possible protests;
Shape, location and lap amount of the track will be announced during the skipper
meeting
Race will take place on Haukivesi lake, Oravi, Finland
It is strictly prohibited for all competitors to go on-shore or even come closer than 200
meters to the shore of islands of Linnansaari National park, failure to obey this rule will
result to immediate disqualification and possible prosecution by authorities, limits of the
racing area will be indicated by small spruces (also weak ice area near the channel will
be marked)
Amount of starts will be decided by judges at site

In all disciplines (Kite, Wing and Sled) following awards will be given:

Overall
Women (if more than five participants)
Youth under 18 years on 28.02.2011 (if more than five participants)
Masters over 40 years on 28.02.2011 (if more than five participants)
Best Try (decided by judges)



Additionally there will be special awards for ”Rautio Sports P-7” and for Grand Masters
(over 70) in Wing Class disciplines
During the demo phase each competitor is requested to kindly guide and help spectators
to learn sailing on ice and media to get good pictures. During the race phase racing gets
higher priority
Schedule (NB: WWEC race prior to WISSA on 26th - 27th Feb!):


o 27th Feb - WISSA registration at 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. And 14:00 – 16:00
o 27th Feb - starting from 20:00 WISSA opening ceremony
o 28th Feb - 8:00 – 9:00 Registration, 9:00 Skippers' Meeting, 10:00 first possible
racing start
o 28th Feb - 5th Mar daily Skippers' Meeting and races according to SI
o 3rd Mar – 20:00 WISSA Meeting (rules, next WISSA, other issues)
o 5th Mar – 19:00 WISSA Prize Giving Ceremony and Dinner
o 6th Mar – Freeride, demos, departure



Race results will be published on official web-site http://www.wissa2011.org and also passed
to Winter Windsurfing Club (http://www.winterwindsurf.com ) and Finnish National Sailboard
